Production technicians operate systems and equipment which process oil or gas. The role is essential to the safe and effective delivery of production in the industry. You might be based at an onshore based oil and gas processing facility or an offshore production facility.
Your role will cover a range of duties, including:
You must have a recognised trade apprenticeship and/or. NVQ/SVQ Level 3 certification or equivalent and/or. OPITO / ECITB Technician Training Scheme. You must also old the offshore survival certificate and offshore medical certificate if your role requires you to work offshore).
A good understanding of industry and HSE practices applicable to your role will be useful, as will practical knowledge and experience of production facilities and the plant. Good communication skills are also desirable.
£18,000 - £25,000 onshore. £25,000 + offshore, rising to £45,000 – £60,000 when experienced.
You could progress to lead production technician, production supervisor, offshore installation manager (OIM) or a plant manager. You could also move into a coaching or technical training role.
