The offshore installation manager (OIM) has a vital role to play in the safe and effective delivery of production. It is the most senior manager role offshore and is responsible for dealing with emergencies. The OIM is responsible for managing the offshore operations on the platform or vessel. This includes the health, safety and welfare of all onboard personnel. An OIM might be based offshore on a platform or vessel.
You will need extensive offshore experience at supervisor level, plus the offshore survival certificate and off shore medical certificate. You will also need stand-in OIM experience where you have undertaken the role for short periods.
There are OPITO standards for the OIM role. Ideally you will have evidence of a career path within the oil and gas industry such as a technician or an engineer, or in a supervisory role.
£55,000 - £75,000 rising to £65,000 - £100,000 once experienced.
You could move into a manager role onshore, or become the OIM of a larger installation. You could also become involved in decommissioning or commissioning projects.
