Project engineers play a vital role in technical project teams by ensuring that construction/maintenance projects are completed within budget and safely. They work for operators and engineering/maintenance companies. They are usually part of an engineering team, delivering projects and engineering modifications safely, to the business or for clients. Project engineers are involved from project’s start to its closeout and handover to operations or client teams.
Your wide-ranging role as a project engineer will usually include the following duties:
A degree/HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline. You will also need experience in an engineering/technical role, in project planning, cost control, offshore construction and fabrication.
You may have a chartered engineer or project management qualification. Good knowledge of offshore operations and facilities plus offshore HSE/regulations is also highly desirable.
Your starting salary could be £25,000 – £35,000, depending on entry point, location and company, rising to £50,000 upwards once you are experienced.
You could progress into various roles, including engineering manager, project manager or construction manager.
