Mechanical Technicians carry out repair activities, or planned or unplanned maintenance on a equipment such as pumps, engines, turbines. Their role is essential to the safe and effective delivery of offshore production/onshore processing of oil and gas. They also ensure that plant and equipment used onshore and offshore is safe and meets technical and safety standards. They can be based offshore, at an oil and gas processing plant or at onshore yard/workshop sites.
You will be expected to carry out a range of duties, including:
You must have a recognised trade apprenticeship and/or NVQ/SVQ Level 3 certification or equivalent and/or OPITO / ECITB Technician Training Scheme. You must also hold the offshore survival certificate and offshore medical certificate if you are required to work offshore.
Good understanding of industry and HSE practices applicable to job role. Practical knowledge and experience of maintenance of plant, systems and equipment. Ability to interpret/mark-up technical drawings. Good communication skills.
£18,000 - £25,000 onshore. £25,000 + offshore, rising to £30,000 - £50,000 with experience.
You could progress to lead mechanical technician, mechanical or maintenance supervisor or chargehand, maintenance manager, or offshore installation manager.
