Geologists work closely with other technical departments to find and extract oil and gas from existing fields, as well as searching for potential new targets. They are responsible for finding new reserves of oil and gas, and for getting as much oil or gas out of existing fields as possible, and are mostly employed by operators or consultancy firms.

You must hold a degree in a relevant physical science subject such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry.
Employers may also look for a postgraduate qualification in a related subject.
£23,000 - £30,000, rising to £40,000 - £75,000 once experienced
You could progress to roles including technical specialist,senior geologist, team leader, or manager.
